Vocabulary Focus: Detail-oriented, take initiative, proactive, disciplined

Please read the article “Iceland’s Shorter Work Week a Success” and answer the questions below. These questions are open-ended — you can choose a few to answer in writing or prepare to talk about them in our next class.

1. As an artist, do you think working fewer hours would help or hurt your creativity? Why?
2. How would a detail-oriented person benefit from having more time outside of work or study?
3. Can you think of a moment during your master’s program when you had to take initiative on a project or idea? How did it go?
4. If your university switched to shorter class or studio hours, what proactive steps could you take to stay productive?
5. What are some ways artists need to be disciplined in their routines or creative processes?
6. If you had an extra day off each week, how would you use that time to support your art or studies?
7. Do you think the shorter work week could benefit creative industries like art, design, or film? Why or why not?
