Activity Assignment – Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025

The World Economic Forum recently released its Top 10 Emerging Technologies of 2025. These innovations could shape industries, improve lives, and change how we work in the near future. Some are already in early use, while others are still in research and development.

Here’s the video and PDF we mentioned in class:

For our next lesson, please:

  1. Pick 2–3 technologies from the PDF/video that you find interesting (or more if you’d like!).
  2. Feel free to read through the PDF or scroll through the video to your selected tech.
  3. For each technology you choose:
    • Explain what it is and what interests you most about it.
    • Write down 2–3 discussion questions you would like us to talk about in class.

Genetically engineered living cells that can treat diseases.

Important because: they enable personalized and highly targeted medicine.

▶GLP‑1s for Neurodegenerative Disease

Using GLP‑1 agonist drugs (from diabetes/weight-loss) to potentially treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Important because: they offer new hope for slowing brain diseases.

▶Autonomous Biochemical Sensing

Self-operating sensors that monitor biological or chemical changes.

Important because: they support early disease detection and environmental monitoring.

▶Green Nitrogen Fixation

Sustainable ways to produce ammonia for fertilizer with much lower emissions.

Important because: it strengthens food security and reduces climate impact.

Ultra‑thin materials that precisely control light and sound.

Important because: they enable better imaging, communications, and sensing.

▶Collaborative Sensing

Networks of devices sharing data to create detailed, real‑time maps of environments.

Important because: it helps disaster response, smart cities, and navigation.

Hidden digital markers in AI‑generated media to show authenticity.

Important because: it helps fight misinformation and deepfakes.

    I enjoyed learning about all three technologies because they show how technologies can solve big global problems in different ways.
    Structural battery composites surprised me with the idea that cars or airplanes could also be batteries.
    Advanced nuclear technologies made me think about how we can get reliable clean energy in the future.
    Green nitrogen fixation showed me how even something as common as fertilizer can change to help both farming and the environment.
    Overall, it was exciting to see how these innovations could make the world more sustainable.
